Glenorchy Photo Spots

Hi! For as long as I can remember I have loved taking photos. I don't have any fancy camera equipment, like big telescopic lenses or even a tripod and my camera is mostly always set on automatic. Because when I 'see' a photo, I just like to quickly snap it. Over the years I've been on a lot of hiking and photography adventures and I've 'seen' thousands of photos, some of which I'd love to share with you here :)

Glenorchy Photo Spots

I had been to Queenstown numerous times in my life and even driven the road to Glenorchy part of the way but never actually been there. When we finally planned a day trip, it turned out to be during a spring snow storm passing through!

The road from Queenstown to Glenorchy must be one of the most scenic drives in the South Island of New Zealand. Luckily I had remembered to clean the car windows and I snapped a lot of good pictures on the drive in.
The road can be narrow in places and winds around the mountains but there are plenty of pull over areas to stop and photograph beautiful Lake Wakatipu.

Naturally the first place you'll want to photograph is the famous red shed with the Glenorchy sign. As you can imagine this area gets very busy so if you have extra time I recommend taking a picnic. Then sit on the grass area and watch everyone taking their perfect shots. :)

Behind the red shed is the famous jetty with the overhanging light at the end. I found that people were really respectful and waited patiently while everyone did their photo shoots at the end of the jetty. I also kept an eye on the flow of people and timed it just right.

The row of trees growing in the water by the jetty also made for a fun photo. Especially with the majestic snow capped mountains in the background.
It was worth going for a little wander around and capturing other random shots.

It stayed dry enough for us to hike the Glenorchy Lagoon Walk (check out my blog post HERE) with only the occasional snowflake. The storm clouds helped create some moody looking photos, which I wasn't mad about!

The scenery on the Glenorchy Lagoon walk was breathtaking.

There were plenty of spots to sit and take in the beautiful scenery along the Glenorchy Lagoon Walk.

We were lucky that sometimes the clouds would move and let some sunshine peek through. That helped to create some stunning reflections on the lagoon waters.
The weather was getting worse so it was time to leave. It's always hard to drag me away from such a beautiful place. Yes I know I already had thousands of photos but what if I didn't get THAT one shot? So just in case I took another last shot of the jetty from another angle!
One last shot of the jetty

On our drive back to Queenstown the sky changed and became incredibly dark and ominous. The snow was falling thick and heavy. But luckily we drove safely through the blizzard and the sky was clearing as we stopped at the Bennetts Bluff Lookout.
Looking towards Queenstown, the sky looks bright! But then swinging around and looking towards Glenorchy, there's that blizzard we drove through!

Thanks for stopping by and having a look at my photos. I'd love you to share this post and if you use my photos, all I ask is that you credit me please :)
